McBride Sisters Collection Reserve Gamay "Rebels" Central Otago, New Zealand 2021

Red – 750ml

Savory, peppery, fruity and fresh – this Reserve is a red for the rebels in the room. From the country where sheep outnumber people more than five to one, this wine is dedicated to the black sheep who dare to succeed by breaking the rules.

"From the beginning, Robin and I rebelled against the status quo of ‘how the industry works.’ This Reserve Gamay is an ode to the rebels who see things differently." - Andréa McBride John

  • Wine Details

The Central Otago region of Aotearoa New Zealand* is internationally renowned for Pinot Noir, so we decided to make Gamay. We source our grapes from a single vineyard in Bannockburn, a sub-region of Central Otago, where we found a kindred spirit bucking the trends. Our Gamay grapes get harvested by hand and destemmed before fermentation with native yeasts. To let the bright and savory fruit shine through, we age in 40% stainless steel and 60% neutral oak, and bottle it unfined and unfiltered.

  • Tasting Notes

Fragrant red berries and pomegranate open into subtle lavender and earth aromas that complement the wine's fresh fruit notes and almost meaty character. Bold and provocative, this complex wine never loses its balance and stays the course through a long, peppery finish.

  • Appellation

    Central Otago

  • Food Pairings

Grilled salmon, cajun shrimp, or grilled chicken.

“Female winemakers Andréa and Robin McBride ‘crush’ male dominated industry with country’s largest Black-owned brand.”

“Robin and I fondly refer to our father as a ‘Cocky Motherf*cker, based on his presence, stature, intellect and overall give-no-f*cks attitude.”

— Andréa McBride John
